“My name is Amber Jones. I need to see my father please,” I replied

“I’m sorry but he is resting now. You can see him later this afternoon maybe.”

“No! I need to see him now. You don’t understand. I just prayed to God, and he is going to make him better. Please let me come inside.”

“Let me give it a try young lady,” a voice from behind me called out. It was Pastor Jacob. I handed him the phone. “Nurse, this is Pastor Jacob. I’m going to bring in Amber for a few minutes to visit with her father. It’s been a difficult time for the family this evening.”

“I understand Pastor Jacob. Please bring her inside.”

“There we go. Now let’s go see what the Lord is up to shall we,” he said opening the door with his badge.

As I was looking for my father’s room, my heart went out to all the other people in there.

We found my father who was hooked up to all types of machine’s keeping him breathing. I tried not to cry, but seeing him like that made it impossible. His face looked so swollen. I walked over to his bedside and took his hand. It felt clammy and cold. Bending over, I started talking into his left ear.

“Dad, it’s me Amber. I hope you can hear me. Please don’t leave us. I’m so sorry for all the things I said. I was just mad about mommy passing away and you not letting me see Keith. I know now that you were right about him being no good for me. I promise to be a better daughter from now on. I love you so much and always have. Please, please, please, just squeeze my hand.” I said holding it against my face.

“Ok. I really need you both to let him rest. He needs all of his strength if he’s going to pull through,” the nurse said.

“Wait! He just squeezed my hand,” I yelled out. I watched as he did it a few more times. The Lord heard my prayers. He’s going to let my father live. The nurse made us leave after that.

Chapter 13

Matthew

Three months had gone by. I had made enough progress that they allowed me to be release today. While waiting for Amber, Felicia and Todd to come pick me up, I reflected on everything that had happen. All I can say was if it had not been for the Lord on myside I wouldn’t have made it through. Using the cane provided by the hospital, I walked over to the mirror. Pulling open my shirt to expose the scars left by the bullet wounds. These will never be reminder of a tragic night in a strip club parking lot. When I look at them, I will only see the night a father stood between his daughter and the devil.

“You going to stand there looking in that mirror all day,” a little voice called out. It was Felicia. She ran right into my arms. “I’m so happy to see your face sunshine.
